The Chinese Crested has always been my breed. I have allergies, and this breed has always just made sense for me. Over the years, I’ve had about five Chinese Cresteds — many of them rescues, and a few purchased. I’ve loved every single one, but before I found Peg Shaw, I had quite a few problems with the dogs I acquired because they didn’t come from reputable breeders.
One of my rescues had only one eye, another passed away from cancer far too young — and while I adored them all, those experiences taught me how critical it is to go through a responsible, ethical breeder. I didn’t fully understand what a difference that makes until I found Peg.
About three years ago, I purchased a male from Peg, and he is, without question, the best dog that has ever entered my life. He’s small, exactly as described, and has the most wonderful temperament — truly perfect in every way. Peg was fantastic to work with from start to finish. We had arranged for him to be a Christmas surprise for my children, and she made it happen by coordinating delivery in Orlando during an AKC show. My parents picked him up, and everything went perfectly. He’s been the highlight of our lives ever since.
Last year, we decided to add another to our family — this time a female Powderpuff, my first of that variety. Peg once again made the process effortless and personal, arranging the pickup at her December AKC show in Orlando. Our Powderpuff is just as wonderful — healthy, affectionate, and full of personality.
One of the things I appreciate most about Peg is that she doesn’t disappear after the puppy goes home. She’s always been available for questions — whether it’s about grooming, feeding, training, or health. I’ve even texted her directly from the veterinary clinic a few times when I thought there might be an emergency, and she immediately responded with calm, knowledgeable guidance that helped me stay grounded. She’s incredibly experienced, professional, and kind — and she genuinely cares about her dogs and their families.
I can honestly say that the two dogs I have from Peg are absolutely gorgeous — the kind of Cresteds that make you smile when people call them “the world’s ugliest dog,” because these two are living proof of how stunning, elegant, and loving this breed can be when bred with care and integrity. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to get another puppy from her.
